Man's Road by Alicique Man's Road by Alicique
Posted this one on tumblr, but not here! I watched The Last Unicorn for the first time since I was young (blubber blubber). Man, I was a clueless kid...it makes so much more sense now that I'm a real adult'n such.

Wow, you are magnificent, as always! :)
And that reflection is a nice touch!

I'm ali-ive, I'm ali-i-ive... :)

I last watched TLU quite a while ago myself... should give it a try now.

Good eye on that reflection! And thank you, of course. It's definitely a fun movie to revisit, it has really held up over the years.

Yeah, Rankin-Bass studio is awesome! This, together with Flight of Dragons simply struck me as a child. Well I was a rather impressionable kid, to start with. And then imagine seeing this! I was literally having dreams about this movie. That feeling that it's all completely real! That you'll wake up in that castle. Damn.. those were good times...
And then all the emotions, they were absolutely authentic! I think I cried on that final scene.. You shouldn't really show such movies to kids ;)

It must have influenced my drawing style, I think, among the other stuff... Though I'm not nearly half as good as those hand-painted backgrounds there.
That must be when I thought,  - how cool, almost godlike are those people, the artists, the animators, who are able to create an illusion, a series of images, that is more powerful than reality (at least to me at that time). I still think that much :)

Ahhh, what an awesome set of childhood influences. Looks like you've always been sort of preparing to be a fantasy artist. We would rent TLU when I was sick, so I would watch it several times within a short period of time! I loved it so much, but I actually don't remember ever feeling sad during the movie. Mostly a sense of wonder. I was probably too young to empathize and truly understand the characters! Of course I was just blubbering the whole way through as an adult, just out of nostalgia.

You might be right around my generation, but I feel really lucky to have the films I did around during my childhood. Kids movies are a lot different than they used to be! Not bad by any means, just different, and I wonder what kind of artist I'd be if I grew up now. Admittedly I've never seen Flight of Dragons, so I need to get on that... :) It's neat that you were aware of the folks behind the movie. I've found it really hard to shake that feeling as well, I'm always looking at other artists and being amazed. We live in such a visual time, it's very exciting!

I love this.  The composition is SO good, and it has this dreamy old-Japanese-woodblock feel to the way you did the lighting.
